surroundings, – paying homage to nature, the Willamette river, or a city street. I paint my oil landscapes on site and generally complete them in one session. At times the paintings seem to paint themselves - and are completed quickly - other times I find myself on a long expedition that lasts for hours. Etching: When I was studying art in my twenties, I had the opportunity to try etching. I found that figures, images, places seemed to come to life without me thinking before hand what I would be drawing. It was fun. It still is fun. I'm fond of the open bite technique, and use aquatint, drypoint, etching, and monoprint techniques as needed. Currently, I work out of Bite Studio in Portland, OR. Acrylic Painting: Acrylic works for me as a tool not unlike my etched drawings – but with the added interest of colors, texture, and layers. My acrylic paintings are also pulled from my imagination and are generally not planned. Figures show themselves, and I strive to listen. Lately I have also painted memories of Portland cityscapes. |
