Bio
Background: I was born in 1964 in Boulder, CO. I grew up
next to the foothills within a block of artists Helen Barchilon
Redman (to the North), Luis Eades (to the NW) and Virginia
Maitland (to the West). The mountains were my first love.
I pulled my first print in Lacoste, France during a nine month
stay with the Cleveland Inst of Art. Discovering etching was
like finding a long lost friend. I also painted my first plein air
work there. Returning to CU, Boulder, I continued studying
painting, printmaking, and mathematics. Frank Sampson,
George Woodman, and Dave Hickey are some artists/critics
who influenced me there. After graduating, I opted to seek
good fortune from a green Westfalia and the open road. Ending
up in Taos, I painted and waited on tables for a few years. It
was during this time that I met Rod Goebel and David Barbero,
whose work and (especially) approach to painting influences
me to this day. Feeling a pull to help better the world through
building creative structures (a la Michael Reynolds) I moved to
LA to study architecture at SCI-Arc (which is absurd if you
know anything about Michael Reynolds - but Sci-Arc was
tremendous). I spent 4 years in California doing just this.
In 2006, after a few moves and a decision to return to
Portland, I realized I needed to hop back on my artist track and
stay on until the bitter end.
You can find me painting in the Troy Laundry Building,
printmaking at Bite Studio, and painting along the banks of the
Willamette.
